24x18" / 7/8" acrylic on canvas.  This piece is my second exploration of fauvism, which began with Canvas 120.  This attempt began in June of 2021 when my girl friend announced that our new shared living space needed a feminine touch.  She presented me with a downloaded picture of a lotus and said, What can you do with this? We need something for the guest bath that doesn't look like an ink splotch.  This is the result.  The work began with the question, What would Van Gogh do? I attempted to answer this question in the body of piece.  Every stroke is exaggerated and stylized.  Bored by the result and again reminded of a hotel room (see Canvas 120), I decided to experiment.  I used unblended, acrylic crayon to create smeared distortions where simple shadow is expected. To emphasize that this piece is taken from a snapshot, I trapped the scene in a blurry, bleeding box. Finally, to keep everything in place and add a little shimmer, I applied fixative and gloss varnish.  My girl friend was pleased with the result.  Short of the work ever selling, the canvas now adorns our guest bath.
