18x20" / 7/8" abstraction created in the winter of 2019. It is my first attempt at this style of painting. In this case I attempted to capture the essence of the Chicago skyline sunset when viewed from my south side apartment window. The neighborhood is reduced to a graphite gray monolith. The skyline is distorted and left as transparent titanium white outline. The sky is gradient transitioning from cobalt turquois, through pyrole orange and red. The overall mood of the work is emotional communicated by the contrast between the passionate warmth of the sunset and the stressful undefined gray of the neighborhood.
