18x20" / 7/8" abstract created in January of 2020. This piece is an experiment in technique. The work began by covering the canvas with a layer of light ultramarine blue. I then covered the canvas with cheese cloth and applied a mashup of dioxazine purple, quinacridone red, nickel azo yellow and titan buff directly to the cheese cloth using a spatula. I let the canvas dry and then ripped off the cheese cloth. The resulting surface, is a gritty grid with a literal transparent section in the middle exposing the color of the hanging wall.
