18x20" / 7/8" abstract pour created in the spring of 2020. This work explores layering and incorporating stencils into an acrylic pour. It began by mixing up pouring mediums using naphthol red light, light magenta, titanium white, and light ultramarine blue. I combined all of them in layers using a single cup and dumped the contents on the center of my canvas. I then tilted the canvas until the paint had spread out and covered the entire surface and edges. To create waves (texture), I used a blow dryer to push the paint around. After about 30 minutes, I added a plastic 12x12" stencil to canvas pressing it into paint. I then covered the stencil with second pour using same palette. After 3 hours, once the first layer had dried, I used a brush to cover the exposed first layer with metallic gold. Once the second layer had completely dried, I pulled off the stencil. Finally, I used an electric sander to smooth out the surface of the work prior to applying a heavy gloss.
