18x48" / 1.5" wood panel, abstraction created in December of 2020. This piece is my second attempt at painting on wood. It began with a base coat of cadmium red followed by a drizzle of hansa yellow medium. Inspired by the feel of the wood, I dipped my fingers into florescent green, chromium oxide green, ultramarine blue, and titanium white. Using my wet fingers, I traced the grain along the top of the panel. Slowly, a jungle like scene began to form. Thinking of exposed roots, I flipped the panel and dipped my fingers into cadmium red, titanium white, and ultramarine blue. Again using my wet fingers I explored the feel of the wood. Slowly, a root like structure took form.
